This was an interesting stop today . . . even though we hadn't planned it ahead of time. This is Fort Pulaski National Monument. It was built on Cockspur Island in the Savannah River by U.S. Military engineers to guard the river approaches to Savannah.
We thought it was especially intriguing because it has a moat.

The moat is seven feet deep and 32 - 48 feet wide . . . and no protection to keep people from falling off!
