Recommended Restaurant

If we are in an area for a few days, we always visit the local Visitors' Center to get their ideas on places we should see and things we should do. We always ask for a local restaurant recommendation of where that person likes to eat (not where they need to try to send us), and rarely are we sent to a place to which we would not return. Also, these places tend to be off the beaten path and take a little effort to find, but the locals are always there. The Portside was just such a place and we went there twice for their deep-fried crab legs (just the meat -- a super easy way to eat them) and they were delicious!



We usually go about 2:00 or so, so we got this window table with a beautiful view. I had even gotten a haircut in North Bend (north of Coos Bay) -- I just hate to get my haircut on the road, but sometimes it is just necessary!

So today we visited an Estuary -- you know what that is, right? It's the place where rivers meet the sea, and the salt and fresh waters mix. The famous Dungeness crab thrive in estuaries along with many other creatures. We were actually visiting the South Slough (pronounced "slew") which is part of the larger Coos Estuary.
