So . . . today we took the bus ride to Hermits Rest -- the area that they closed off for the Obama Family to visit. You can only ride the shuttle bus around and it goes out about 7 miles from Bright Angel Lodge. It makes several stops (7 or so), but then you have to get back on a bus that is usually full and stand. So, when were lucky enough to get seats going out, we just stayed on and got off at the end point of Hermits Rest. A little Korean family that we had been visiting with took this picture of us.
You can see the Colorado River waaaaaayyyyyy down at the bottom in this view. It was really muddy looking! At other views we could see some of the rapids, too.
In this picture, the Colorado River is the light speck in the center (sort of looks like a meteor tail).
This was a plaque near the Visitors' Center.
