No waiting in a long line for permission to take-off . . . just close the airport down!
The runway at the Grand Canyon Airport is barely long enough for a 747!
The wings extend out over the edges of the tarmac, so it kicks up a lot of dust. The man in the left foreground with the baseball cap had an interesting story. We were talking to him while we waited for the plane to take-off. His company is contracted with Boeing, and he drives a truck around the country with extra tires for Air Force One should they be needed. They had dropped off some tires in Grand Junction and then were told to wait here at the Grand Canyon until the plane took off.
This is the semi-truck he drove with the tires in it.
