Grand Mesa Drive

This morning we drove the loop on the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway and saw lots of pretty sights. These three mule deer were wading in the river -- must have been cold, though!

We drove by Powderhorn Ski Resort before we even got to the top. The temperature there was 26 degrees at 10:00 A.M., and it only got colder on farther up!

The small ponds were starting to freeze over. They claim that there is 200 (or we've also seen the figure of 300) lakes on the Grand Mesa. Grand Mesa is the largest flat-top Mesa over 10,000 feet.

I just love this wintry picture! The trees were lightly dusted with snow, fog was coming off the lake and there were low clouds of fog, too. It was just beautiful!
