Columbia River Experience

This is a fishing boat heading back into the town of Astoria.  That land over there is Washington.

This man and his wife were fishing.  Dave got to talking to him and asked what they were fishing for.  He said they were fishing for sturgeon. He also told Dave during their conversation that when people asked him what he did before he retired, he always told them he was a retired brain surgeon because if he told them he was an electrician, they always had too many follow-up questions!

This is a very scenic viewing platform to see where the Pacific Ocean and the Columbia River meet.  We  were here several years ago, too.

This is called the "Bar" -- where a river empties into the ocean.  The Columbia River Bar is very treacherous.  Since 1972, about 2000 ships have sunk in this area. 

We love hearing the sound of the waves.
