We really enjoy all of the "green" sights in Washington.
And . . . the beach views. This is from Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, Washington. The people were out there really enjoying the "summer" day even though it was about 70 degrees! The kids were really enjoying playing in the wet sand.
This State Park at Fort Worden was a huge Army Base. Construction was started in 1896 and was the fort was commissioned in 1902. Twenty-three huge buildings were completed in 1904 at a cost of $59,450.00. It was officially closed in 1953. The movie, An Officer and a Gentleman, was filmed here. Many buildings are still standing and have had many uses and are now currently used as a Conference Center. You can even rent out some of the homes for family reunions, etc., but they are even more expensive than Estes Park! There were many gun batteries whose primary use was to guard the entrance into Puget Sound and into the mainland by water.
Since this was Memorial Day, we appreciated this sight of all the American Flags at the Fort Worden Cemetery. There were no battles here, but soldiers who had served at Fort Worden could choose to be buried there.
