Today, I was listening to a road tune on my iPod -- Johnny Cash singing "I've Been Everywhere," and one of the first towns it mentions is Winnemucca (Nevada). Well, we didn't go through there, but I looked it up in the AAA book and here's the story. "Thousands of pioneers passed through Winnemucca on their way to California and Oregon. In 1845 children in a wagon train bound for California played a game of tossing pebbles into blue buckets hanging from the wagons. The 'pebbles' were later identified as gold nuggets, and although many have searched, the "Blue Bucket Mine" never has been found." Now can't you just envision the children playing while the parents were busy setting up camp and tending to the animals, and they were playing with gold nuggets!
