This was the next demonstration -- wheat threshing - - separating the grain from the straw. This threshing machine was powered by an old Case steam tractor which was burning wood to heat the water. See the big long belt connecting the threshing machine to the tractor? This has to be lined up just right or the belt will fly off!
You really can't see all the belts on the old thresher unless you enlarge this picture. I guess they were something to keep running!
Working under steam power.
Starting to pitch the wheat stalks onto the belt and into the thresher. It really took a lot of men to harvest the wheat considering you had several wagons bringing hay to the thresher, running the thresher and hauling away the wheat and the straw. Neighbors usually worked together to help each other harvest.
