Since we are spending some time in Denver this time rather than just passing through quickly, we decided to take in some of the "touristy" places to see.

Hammond's Candies has been making primarily hard candy since 1920. They are famous for their old-fashioned ribbon candy at Christmas. Since most of their candy is hard candy, it can be made a year or more ahead of time. Their chocolates were $22.95 a pound (I don't know why!) and needless to say, we didn't buy any to try it. I did buy ONE super-delicious chewy chocolate caramel, though!
They have candy canes and suckers in any variety of flavors that you can imagine. Their Halloween display was colorful to say the least.
They were working on candy canes in the factory when we took the tour. They start making candy canes in January. They have three shifts and the workers may volunteer to work on Saturday (for pay, of course), but no one is required to work on Saturday. They also make candies for many other places to sell under their brand.
