When we could see the RV Park from the highway (not this picture, though), we decided to check on staying.
The park looked really nice and it was huge! And . . . we could use one of our discount camping plans here.
It was a beautiful day in downtown Amana -- just a little crisp to us. Now . . . a little bit of history on the Amana Colonies. The area was settled in 1850 by a German religious group. There are 7 villages in the colonies and they were originally built one hour apart when traveling by ox cart. Each village had a church, a farm and multi-family residences and communal kitchens. The community owned all of the land and the buildings. There was no money (none was needed as everyone worked and shared everything). The names of the villages are: Amana, Middle Amana, High Amana, West Amana, South Amana, and Homestead. There's also an East Amana, but we didn't go there.
