We stopped to see the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D. Dave has always wanted to see it. The murals on the front and the side of the building are replaced every year with a selected theme. The front area where it says "Everyday Heroes" isn't finished yet, and the year 2008 will be added. It is all made from corn parts and the cobs are cut and nailed on black roofing paper that has sort of a "paint by number" design on it. The current building was built in 1921, and this has been going on since. The previous building was built in the 1800's. There are pictures of each year's decoration inside. It is a real community effort.
Inside the corn palace it is an auditorium and over 150 basketball games are played here each year. The local schools and college use it. Other events use it, too. There is a stage at the front. These murals are also done in corn.
