Leaving Monument Valley, you drop quite a bit in elevation. And, actually, coming up the way went left has many of the famous views you have seen before.
Seeing these multi-colored hills means that Mexican Hat (the town and the landmark) will soon be coming into view.

The patterns on these hills are really best seen in person.
