Unplanned Stayover in Cheyenne

So . . . we left Denver this morning about 10:15, thinking we were doing well leaving after the people had gone to work, the kids were in school, and the roads had time to clear off. We had planned to get some cheaper gas in Cheyenne (taxes are somewhat less) and then head on over to Scottsbluff/Gering. When we got to the Colorado/Wyoming State Line the winds really started getting gustier (is that a real word?). The wind had been strong for the trip, but the gusts really kicked up. We later heard on the radio that the gusts were up to 58 m.p.h.! After we got gas at Little America, we headed east on the Interstate and the awning cover over the dining slide was really making a racket, so we pulled off to check it out.




In order to try to escape the winds, we finally found a building to park beside for shelter. Then, when we put the dining slide to check it, the part on the front end of the dining awning fell off, so we knew we couldn't drive much with it or the whole awning would come off. We found an RV repair place with help from my cousin Gay's husband, and they repaired it and the cost was reasonable. But we decided to spend the night in Cheyenne because THE WIND IS STILL BLOWING!!!




When Dave went out to clean the windshields to get ready for tomorrow, he sprayed the cleaner on the paper towel because "Good Luck" getting the Windex to stay on the windshield!! Then . . . when he went to spray the side mirror on my side (which was sheltered from the wind, somewhat), he sprayed the Windex directly on the mirror and it froze! We passed one bank time/temp sign on our way to the campground that said it was 22 degrees at about 4:30 -- that could have been about right!!
